I love learning. It may have helped that I was a pretty good student in school but you needn’t have been in order to keep learning. On my commutes (when I am not riding my bike) I am always reading something or listening to an audio. The majority of what I read is personal development, business-related or computer programing.
Just by doing that…I give myself a head start from the masses.
Did you know?
- 1/3 of high school graduates never read another book for the rest of their lives.
- 42 percent of college graduates never read another book after college.
- 80 percent of U.S. families did not buy or read a book last year.
- 70 percent of U.S. adults have not been in a bookstore in the last five years.
- 57 percent of new books are not read to completion.
- 70 percent of books published do not earn back their advance.
- 70 percent of the books published do not make a profit.

On the other hand, according to Brian Tracy, reading a book a week in your chosen subject for 7 years will make you an international expert. That may seem like a long time…but if you are going to be in the industry anyway…why not become and international expert.
Also, after even a year…you actually know more than most people and some of those people will pay for your knowledge. You are going to be a year older anyway…you might as well learn some more.
Besides books, in the past couple years I have discovered seminars. I used to think…I can just read a book and learn it all (that’s largely how I made it through school…didn’t pay much attention in class but learned through the books).
Then the problem is….many books had exercises that “I would get to later” and later would never come. Experiential seminars give you the time and space to do the exercises and really make a difference.
It’s ok to read books over again, and listen to seminars over and over again. As we grow and learn…we are in a different place and pick up new things each time.
If you don’t grow…your income cannot grow. You have to become a bigger person for your income to get bigger.
Keep growing!
